The Month of August and September Goals

August was a super busy family month, so there was not much quilting (or blogging) going on.  However, I was able to finish my August goal which was to complete a floral quilt for my Sister-in-law.  I named it Garden View

Then I started a pink and purple quilt at the request of my sons.  I was able to finish the top and it is now basted and ready to quilt.

So my September Goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes is to finish this pink and purple quilt.  Does anyone have a suggestion for a name?

I really hope that things settle down now that both Cheetah and Panda are in school (although Panda is only in school half day).  However, I know that may take some time.  Panda and Monkey both have birthdays and Cheetah is in soccer.

I need to get into a good quilting rhythm, because I just bought fabric for four quilts for my boys (hubby included) for Christmas.  They all have minky on the back, and I bought more minky for my sons to make fuzzy pillow cases.  I am so excited to work with new fabric, and not just fabric from my stash.  :)  Although the rhythm will be extra tricky, because I will need to work on these when the recipients are not around!

In addition to the four quilts for my boys, I also need to make one more lap quilt, some pillow cases, table runners, and hot pads for Christmas.  Better get busy!

Have you started sewing any Christmas gifts yet?

Jasmine

  1. Love your star quilt - it reminds me of the summer puddings my Mom used to make. White bread lining a bowl then filled with stewed raspberries, and blackberries, covered with a plate and a weight on top and left overnight for the juice to sink into all the bread. Turned out the next day and served with cream. Yummy, a Summer Pudding Quilt!

  2. Oh goodness, no thoughts about what to do for Christmas just yet. Hmmm, I should probably give that some thought! I like Tina's summer pudding quilt suggestion for the name! Or maybe something with "jam" in the name?

  4. Sorry - no quilt name inspiration here for your lovely pink and purple star. Naming quilts is always a challenge for me. Enjoy your Cristmas sewing with all new fabrics!

  5. Congrats on such a lovely finish for August. I bet your sil loves her new quilt!

Love the bundle of fabrics that are destined to be quilts for the men in your life. I'm picturing some happy faces when they open these on Christmas morning.

I'm still in the deciding and gathering stage of gift making for the season. Kudos for getting a good head start!

  6. Your radiant star quilt turned out pretty. I love the fabrics for the Christmas quilts for your boys! Sounds like you have a lot on your plate - food luck getting it all done!

  7. Goodness! You have lots planned for Christmas. If it were me, I'd make the quilts while everyone is around, but keep mum about who they are for. It is an extra pleasure when a kid who has been admiring a quilt receives it as a surprise! You can always say that you are making the quilts to give away. It's not a lie! Fun fabrics...and minky! Yay!

  8. What fun fabric choices. I am looking forward to seeing what pattern you make with each. Wish I had a clever name for your quilt but I am not very creative when it comes to that. Thanks for the suggestion to start holiday gifts now. Maybe I will start putting together a list today.

  9. Fun fabrics to work with for your Christmas gifts. I always love cutting into new fabric!! No holiday sewing in my plans. My daughter is having her 4th baby in November so my extra sewing is for that. :) Have fun sewing.

  10. Excellent fabric pulls! I have to get my August (whoops!) and September quilts out before I can think about the holidays. At least I'm thinking small this year, just some pot holders for gifts and maybe a decoration for me if I have time. Good luck finding secretive sewing time. It can be quite difficult!

  11. Yep, I'm working on Christmas. Have been for a while. And I ridiculously decided to start designing patterns. Now. Because I don't have anything else to do. Sheesh. You'd think I'd get smart and do it in January? Thank goodness for five sewing nights between now and Thanksgiving!

  13. I've started thinking about Christmas gifts and ornaments. I'll need to get started soon. The pink and purple quilt is very striking. I like the way you've done the borders. I can't think of a name but if I come up with a suggestion, I'll let you know.
