HMQS...

...and a 200th post giveaway!

My mom and I went to the HMQS (Home Machine Quilting Show) in Salt Lake City, Utah last weekend.  What was the best part?  Meeting Val from Val's Quilting Studio and having lunch together.  We both agree that meeting in real life makes our blogging quilt guild seem so much more real.  :)

It was also fun to see some absolutely amazing quilts in person.  Here are just a couple of my favorites.

The Complex Irish Chain pieced by Beth Nufer and quilted by Joann Hoffman.

I love the rainbow and the quilting.

And the applique added so much.

The next quilt was Irish Stone Creek pieced by Rosemary Kurtz and quilted by Barb Maurer.

The quilting is absolutely beautiful.

This is probably not surprising, because last year my favorite quilt was Irish Lass by Judi Madsen.

But I must say that I love the colors in Irish Stone Creek.  Looks like I really enjoyed the Irish Chains this year.

Another fun part of the HMQS was the shopping at the vendor's mall.  This is my anniversary, Mother's Day, birthday month, so my husband gave me some extra money to spend.  :D  While my mom bought lots of thread from Superior Threads, I found some cute fabric at Daine's Cotton Shop.  (Monkey has practically claimed all of this.)

I also found patterns for the Sew Together Bag and the Beatle Bag.

Because this is my 200th post, I thought it would be fun to give away something I purchased at the show.  I bought some Rainbow Clover Wonder Clips for me to try them out, and some for one of my readers.

Anyone can enter, just leave me a comment telling me what you would use them for.  (I think I will be using them on my Sew Together bag.)  My followers can leave a second comment telling me how they follow me.  I am leaving this giveaway open through Sunday, May 17.  On Monday I will contact the winner through email, so make sure I have your email address.  Then I will update this post with the name of the winner.

This giveaway is now closed.  Congratulations to PK_Sews!  I hope you enjoy using them on your bag and bindings.

XX,
Jasmine

P.S.  I will be linking up with some of the fun parties on my sidebar, including Val's Tuesday Archives for Quilt Shows.  Pretty convenient timing, huh?

  4. Congratulations on reaching 200 posts! I look forward to all of them. I love those Irish Chain quilts, though that first rainbow one is my favourite. Happy anniversary and birthday month, and I hope you had a lovely Mother's Day. Thanks for the chance to win the clips. I'd use them to hold binding while I sew it to the back. Three runners will be needing that treatment soon!

  12. I'm so glad that you got to go to the show. I've been reading about it, and it sounded wonderful. And congratulations on 200 posts! And thanks for your inspiring blog and this generous giveaway! I have an Amy Butler Weekender bag on my bucket list, and these clips would certainly come in handy for that. They would also be great for binding.

  16. Sounds like you had a wonderful time!
Loved seeing some of your fav quilts from the show and your goodies your purchased. I have not used the clips before, but of course I have runners waiting to be bound so I would try them on that.

  17. Oh my...I seem to be saying the same thing as most everyone else! I LOVE these clips and could sure use another package! I use them for holding down the binding for hand-sewing. I've also just started doing hexies with the mylar templates and use them to hold the first fold....but one of my favorite uses is for hanging little quilts on the door...they look so cute hanging on a little bit of hemp twine...like on a clothesline....too cute! Congratulations on your 200th post as well....I found you a couple of weeks ago and have been having a hoot reading past posts---especially the ones with you collaborating with your mom. I lost mine last year---and so miss quilting with her. Blessings...kathy

  26. Love the beautiful quilts and the goodies, Jasmine. I recently bought the beetle bag but have not made it yet. Be sure to make Cheetah another quilt with that awesome fabric and treasure every moment with him!

  27. You are such an inspiration, Jasmine! I love what you do. I also went to HMQS and bought a tool that is supposed to make finishing the binding easier, so I would use the different color binder clips to mark the start and stops. Thanks for the chance to win!!

  28. I would love the clips as I really want to work on my tote which will hold eveything I take to workshops. I started it last year but got side tracked. My one package of red clips are spread out among several projects. The colored clips would be so useful. Thanks for the raffle.

  29. Well, hmm, since I caved and now glue my binding down prior to hand-stitching it to the back, I can't see me needing the clips other than to clip a bag of chips closed after I've had a few to munch on, or clip the tendrils of hair back that get in my eyes when I'm all sweaty at yoga, or, okay okay, I can SEE right now, on my sewing desk, that I'd use them to clip together the 3" squares I've put in piles of 9 for my 9-patch charity quilt! lol
So cool that you met Val! Meeting Lara this summer is on my to-do list...several others on my bucket list! Thanks and congrats. Love your blog. Educational and inspirational Jasmine. :-)
