Wild Quilting

A couple months ago I took Christina Cameli's Wild Quilting class on Craftsy.  I have spent a lot of time doodling and practicing on paper.  While I enjoyed it, I couldn't get it to look the way I pictured it in my mind.  Then one day, I saw this YouTube video of Coleen Barnhardt's Doodle Quilting.  I drew some more, and it started to click.  Then I decided I needed to jump in and practice with needle and thread.

I can hardly believe that I actually quilted it.

After that practice, I decided to quilt with blue thread on black fabric.

I used a layer of Hobbs 80/20 and Hobbs Wool.  Then I made it into a table runner.

I totally love it!

2.5 years ago I tried some similar quilting when I first got my Baby Lock Tiara.  Wow!  I have come a long way.

I can't wait to try some Wild/Doodle/Flow/Graffiti Quilting on something else.

XX,
Jasmine

P.S.  I will be linking up with some of the fun parties on my sidebar.  Check them out to see what other people are making.

  2. It looks fantastic, Jasmine. Finding a "groove" of what works for you definitely can take time and practice, and it's also fun to be able to look back and see how we've grown and evolved. I'm glad you still had the sample practice from 2.5 years ago for reference. :)

  10. It truly is gorgeous, your runner, and your practice piece! I did Wild Quilting à la Karlee Porter, and had fun but it didn't quite look as spontaneous as hers. Your runner puts me in mind of my yoga mat bag I did a couple of years ago, same colour theme. Thanks for the tip on the YouTube video.

  11. I have taken that craftsy class too and I'm still working achieving scales in wild quilting so each motif stands out. This is lovely and such a good ideas to use it for a table runner.
