Like you, I am concerned about bearding. Your quilt is humongous, and amazing you got it done in 4 hours!! If you haven't alre...I love both sides of this! If you haven't already, you should try the polyester batting by the Warm Co. I can't think of the name, soft n bright maybe? The one I had was very consistent in size.
