Blue Table Toppers

Earlier this year I made some blue table toppers.  It wasn't until a few months later that I realized I never took pictures of them finished.

I made these just like the yellow ones in the spring.  I loaded the blue fabric onto the Bernina Q24 and quilted it with a spiral.

I actually cut a corner out of the fabric because I didn't need everything quilted for the three table toppers.  I would rather have plain cotton scraps than a quilted scrap.

I cut the quilted fabric to size and bound them with a navy blue fabric.  Later I took photos.

I really like how the table toppers coordinate, protect the dresser and nightstands, and allow the quilts in my room to shine.  The crazy thing is that I bought this blue fabric right after I finished my Modern Farmer's Wife quilt in January 2015.  At first I couldn't figure out the quilting design I wanted.  Then I just kept putting it off.  I'm so glad they are finally finished.  They look great with the May, July, and August quilts for my bed.

Table Runners

I was able to finish up the Halloween table runner I started earlier this year.  It was pieced with my scraps and got some simple quilting, orange backing, and orange binding.  It is all ready for October this year.

I also finished up the Amanda Murphy scrap table runner.  I didn't want binding, so added the backing and batting right sides together then turned it right side out.  Then it got some top stitching around the edge and simple quilting.  I love how it looks in the basement.

Even small finishes feel so good.

March Table Runner

I was able to put together a green table runner to use this month.  It was all from stash except for the backing.  I quilted it with an open leaf design on my domestic sewing machine.

You can see the leaves a little better on the backing.  (Although the backing is brighter than it appears in the pictures.)

I'm so pleased with how it turned out.

I love how it looks with my March mantle.

I don't know if I have mentioned it or not, but making quilted seasonal decorations becomes addicting.  ;)

August Table Runner

After I finished the last wedding quilt for this year, I pulled out my aqua, green and navy scraps to make another table runner.  It matches my August mantle and decorations.

It is so much fun changing things up every month.

I quilted the table runner on my domestic sewing machine with a hooked spiral.

The back is a solid aqua color, so the runner is nice and reversible.

In fact, I put the solid side up for a baby shower for my soon-to-be-born grand nephew.  :)

The scraps were left over from these two quilts.

Spring Addition which I gave to my friend Alissa.

And A Day in the Country which hangs up upstairs in August.

I still have plans for a green table runner using this same pattern.  I love how well it fits on that quilt cabinet.

Patriotic Table Runner

I made this table runner to match my July mantle.

I quilted it simply by stitching in the ditch.  Anything more competed with the cute prints.  (Which means I spent over an hour unpicking ten minutes of quilting.)

It is the same basic pattern as the pink and purple table runners I have made previously.  It just fits the spot so well and finishes at 18 by 72 inches.

I think I may make one in greens.  I already have the fabric picked out for it.

A Purplicious Table Runner

I recently made this purple table runner to go with my purple and green bunting.

I quilted it with a paisley motif on my domestic sewing machine.

Purple is my favorite color and it makes me so happy.

Custom Runners

I made these sweet table runners and place mats for my mom's friend LaDawn. She bought three yards each of two coordinating fabrics plus binding fabric.  I quilted the three yard pieces on the Bernina Q24.

Then I cut out and bound two table runners which finished at 15 x 90 inches.

They are both reversible.

There was enough fabric left over for seven place mats.

I have only ever made one quilted place mat for me.  I really wanted to keep these.

Place mats for my family are now on my bucket list.

Heat Wave Table Runner

I was happy to find five red, orange, and yellow fabrics in my stash to make the table runner I wanted this month.  Some of these are Northcott Stonehenge, some are Northcott Toscana, and some were random in my stash.

This is my own design for a table runner.  It was inspired by the Piano Keys Table Runner designed by Connie at Freemotion by the River.  My table runner finishes about 66 by 15 inches.

I quilted it with a medium stipple in orange and white thread.

Both threads blend really well with the Stonehenge fabric on the back.

There aren't any tucks on the back, just wrinkles that didn't come out easily.  ;)

I bound the runner in the darkest red fabric.  I like how it frames the quilt.

The runner currently lives on the quilt cabinet in my great room.

This is my view as I come down the stairs from my studio.  I love it!

I originally thought of these colors as summery, which is why I call it my Heat Wave Table Runner.  However, I think this will also be good for fall.

I might turn the runner over to the pumpkin orange side for October.

Wild Quilting

A couple months ago I took Christina Cameli's Wild Quilting class on Craftsy.  I have spent a lot of time doodling and practicing on paper.  While I enjoyed it, I couldn't get it to look the way I pictured it in my mind.  Then one day, I saw this YouTube video of Coleen Barnhardt's Doodle Quilting.  I drew some more, and it started to click.  Then I decided I needed to jump in and practice with needle and thread.

I can hardly believe that I actually quilted it.

After that practice, I decided to quilt with blue thread on black fabric.

I used a layer of Hobbs 80/20 and Hobbs Wool.  Then I made it into a table runner.

I totally love it!

2.5 years ago I tried some similar quilting when I first got my Baby Lock Tiara.  Wow!  I have come a long way.

I can't wait to try some Wild/Doodle/Flow/Graffiti Quilting on something else.
