Enlarging Simple Blocks

I have four blocks to share with you today.  They are all nine patches made with HST and four patches.

Once again I will be sharing the sizes to rotary cut the blocks which have been enlarged to finish at 12 inches.  For more information (and to read fun letters), refer to the original FWQ book by Laurie Hird.

The first is FWQ block #12 Broken Sugar Bowl
  • Dark Blue:  two 4.5 inch squares; four 2.5 inch squares
  • Light Blue:  two 5 inch* squares; four 2.5 inch squares
  • Background: two 5 inch* squares; four 2.5 inch squares

The second is FWQ block #70 Prairie Queen
  • Light Purple: two 5 inch* squares, eight 2.5 inch squares
  • Background: two 5 inch* squares, one 4.5 inch square, eight 2.5 inch squares

The third is FWQ #72 Railroad.
  • Dark Green: two 5 inch* squares; ten 2.5 inch squares
  • Background:  two 5 inch* squares; ten 2.5 inch squares

The fourth is FWQ #98 Waterwheel

*The 5 inch cut squares in these blocks are used to make 4 inch finished HST using this method.  (The tutorial is by Jeni of In Color Order).

  1. I really like broken sugar bowl... but it could be because you used so much blue in that block! :)
