Amanda Murphy Quilts
A couple years ago my mother and I took a class from Amanda Murphy. It was on free-motion quilting on the Bernina Q24. We also bought some of her patterns and fabrics. These fabrics were from a few of her Benartex fabric lines. However, two of the purples below were from a different designer.
They sat in a pretty pile on a shelf until last year when I cut into them to make two quilts. The first quilt used her Meadow Blooms pattern. I call mine, Evening Bloom. Her quilts appear more scrappy because each of her main blocks used five different fabrics plus the background. I limited each block to two fabrics in my quilt.
The second uses her Blossoms pattern. I call mine Meadow Diamonds. Hers has large flowers appliqued all over the quilt. You will notice that mine has no applique. ;)
The tops came together quickly and then I quilted them both on the Bernina Q24.
Then they sat for two months. I was pregnant and had no energy to do the bindings. One weekend I forced myself to bind both of them.
I was so excited they were finished that I quickly put them on display in the basement with our new sofas. I didn't want to take the time for any outdoor pictures.
And there they have stayed for the last year. I still hope to sew up some quilted pillow shams with the scraps from Meadow Diamonds.
But that requires time and energy. Maybe someday...

Alissa's Quilts
While it was hard for me to finish my own projects at the end of 2018, I was able to help my friend Alissa finish three quilts in time for Christmas. I helped her with the design, cutting, layouts, quilting, and some of the binding. Bunny loved it when she came over, because they would play together while I quilted.
This first quilt was a gift for her father-in-law. I quilted it with spirals.
It has black minky on the back.
The second one was for her family.
I quilted it with a large stipple because the minky on the back was so plush.
Bunny really liked the back on this one.
The third one was a gift for her mother-in-law.
I quilted it with spirals and paisleys.
It has lavender minky on the back.
I believe all three of these were made with Benartex jelly rolls. They were a big hit on Christmas day.

Jolly Rancher
This is Jolly Rancher, another scrap vortex made from my cool color solid scraps. I pieced it back in July right after I pieced Starburst. Now I just need to finish a scrap quilt called Skittles. (I really do have one planned and maybe started.)
I quilted it on the Bernina Q24 in an open combined quilting design. I quilted feathers, flowers, hearts, leaves, paisleys, and spirals.
It took me longer to quilt than Starburst because it required more thinking. I love the results from the improv quilting on an improv quilt.
It has purple minky on the back.
Bunny loves to feel the fuzzy, fuzzy, fuzzy minky.
I bound the quilt in navy blue leftover from my niece's quilt.
It is fun seeing how different Starburst and Jolly Rancher turned out.
Jolly Rancher is living in this cabinet for now. But it is always ready for a snuggle.
This is my ninth quilt finish for this year. That is about one per month. Quilt production has definitely been slower this year, but there is a time and a season for everything.

Starburst
I was able to finish up this quilt during nap time and father/daughter time. I decided to name it Starburst after one of Cheetah's favorite candies. My niece Miss S suggested it. My original name for it was Flamin' Hot, but I decided against it. I pieced it while the Dollarridge Fire was burning less than a half mile from my father's cabin. I am happy to say that due to the amazing efforts of the firefighters my parent's cabin and those surrounding theirs were spared.
I quilted it on the Bernina Q24 in a new to me quilting design combination.
Spirals and paisleys. :)
I really like the combo and will be sure to do it again. My sweet little Bunny gave this quilt her stomp of approval when I showed my husband the quilting design.
It is no surprise that she loved the fuzzy minky backing.
Then I bound it in the same red as the border.
I totally love it! It finishes about 60 by 70 inches.
My sister-in-law asked who it was for. I said, "Well, it matches my September Decor."
(Complete with rainbow baby gate.)
I think it may be a keeper.
However, my husband isn't that fond of throw quilts. He likes things put away, so it may stay here until ready for a cuddle.
I now have a post about how I combined the spirals and paisleys in my quilting.

Sea Breeze
I made this quilt for my nephew Mr. C for his wedding. His wife's favorite color is sea green. I only had two fabrics that were sea green, so I went shopping and found six more. The background is five different light grays.
I made the flying geese four at a time using the no-waste method. They ended up a funny size, because I cut the large squares out at nine inches to make the most of my fabric. I used the math found here to figure out how big to cut the small squares.
I added a narrow border so that the points wouldn't be cut off by the binding. It was a Grunge fabric with hints of sea green. It finishes about 60 by 72 inches.
I quilted it on the Bernina Q24 with a large spiral design.
I love how it turned out.
I named the quilt Sea Breeze because of the colors and the geese flying in the wind.
It is a good thing that sea green isn't my favorite color because this quilt would have been hard to give away otherwise. ;)
The bride and groom loved the quilt.
Have you used the no-waste method for flying geese?
