Cookie Crumbs

This is my Christmas quilt which I named Cookie Crumbs, because it has whole cookies (fabric squares) and the crumbs (small scraps) put together to make a quilt I love.  I finished it in November 2020.  This quilt used almost all of my Christmas fabric yardage and scraps.  The only scraps I had left were fine to sort into their color scrap drawers.

These drawers are part of a tower I got at Michaels.  I love how the color of scraps matches the color of the drawer.

I started out making different kinds of scrap blocks based on the scraps I had in my Christmas fabric box.  I found it very helpful using the AccuQuilt 6.5 inch square die to square up the blocks.

My scrap blocks included crumb blocks. scrap vortex blocks, quarter square log cabins, fence rail blocks, string blocks, and more.  I thought about placing the blocks around a Christmas Tree panel I bought on clearance.

I decided I didn't like that, so I cut it up into more 6.5 inch squares.  This was definitely a project that evolved as I went along.

It was becoming rather busy, so I decided to cut the rest of my Christmas yardage and use more whole 6.5 inch squares.  It was becoming an even larger quilt and I pulled out the third section of my modular design wall.  Most of the time I just use two sections because adding the third blocks the walkway.

After putting up the whole 6.5 inch squares, I filled in with the scrappy blocks.

Still busy, but I love it!  I got all those 6.5 inch squares sewn together and laid it on the floor.

Then it was time for the golden cream border.

The border really brightens it up and makes the quilt finish at 96 inches square.

I bought three yards of a 108'' wide fabric and quilted it on the Bernina Q24.  I quilted it with my favorite loopy spiral.  The busy quilt needed a simple quilting design.

Here it is before adding the binding.  I think the colors are the most accurate in this picture.  I bound the quilt in the leftover red fabric from the backing and took some pictures outside.

It glowed in the late afternoon sun.  Then I took it into my bedroom to try it out on the bed.

And there it stayed! What a great use of all of those scraps and leftover yardage.  It is no secret that I love seasonal quilts.

It Has Been Awhile

My last post was nearly two years ago.  I didn't plan on taking a long blogging break, but life happens.  Thank you to everyone who has checked up on me and checked for new posts on my blog.  My family and I are doing well.  I have just been busy taking care of all five of my children and trying to meet their individual needs.  I am grateful I have had quilting to keep me going even if I haven't been blogging.

Things have somewhat calmed down and I am hoping to get back to blogging.  I have over 50 different projects that I have finished and not blogged about since Thanksgiving 2020.  I find myself reading my own blog and showing people the pictures from my blog.   I hope to bring it up to date.  We'll see if I can get caught up.

I thought it would be fun to show my most recent finish first (because I am the most excited about it). It is from Camille Roskelley's book Simply Retro.  It is the Vintage pattern.  I just added four more blocks, sashing, and borders.  My quilt is actually king size finishing at 104 by 104 inches.  It is made from Craftsy's Boundless Sea Spray fabric I bought years ago to make a different quilt.

This puts me one quilt closer to reaching a goal I set before I got married 22 years ago.  I wanted to have one quilt for my bed for each month.  I now only need to make two more and I already have the fabric to do it.  I love looking at quilts on beds and want to share my progress towards this goal.

I have fabric for a blue and cream winter quilt for my bed to replace my Farmer's Wife quilt for January.

I use my Double Irish Chain on my bed for February.  It was my ninth quilt finished and has over 200 hours of hand quilting.

This is a Colorado Log Cabin that my mom pieced for me.  She had me quilt it.

This is my Cheerful Patch quilt for the month of April. I finished it this year in March.  The yellow nine patch is also a recent finish.  The pillows and the quilt on the wall were sewn by my great grandmother.

My Modern Farmer's Wife quilt is the May quilt for my bed.  The doll quilt on the wall was started by my grandmother.  She cut out the fabrics for eleven out of the twelve dolls.

I plan on making a yellow and white quilt for June.  It will be bright and cheerful reminding me of summer sunshine and lemonade.

My Around the Twist quilt is for the month of July.  The quilt on the wall is a recent finish and is actually a gift for one of my nephews.  I just enjoyed it there before gifting it to him.

This quilt will be for the month of August.  But I will enjoy it for September this year because I just barely finished it.

This Stack-n-Whack quilt is what I usually use for the month of September.  I had it on the bed for just a few days this year.

This black and white improv log cabin is my October bed quilt.  I finished it in 2021.

My Colorsplash Trip which I finished in 2007 is for November.  I couldn't find a recent picture, so here it is at my old house.

Cookie Crumbs is my scrappy Christmas quilt for the month of December.  I finished it in 2020 right after my last blog post.  I hope to blog about it soon.

Seeing all of these quilts in one place is very motivating for me to finish the last two quilts for my goal.  I have made more than twelve queen/king size quilts, but I have decided they need to be seasonal to fit my goal.  You can't really have too many quilts, can you?

Raspberry Chocolates

This quilt took me a long time to make (about four months start to finish) because I had to keep setting it aside to finish other projects.  I am happy to say that it is now finished.  It is a disappearing nine patch made with five inch squares.  But once I cut the blocks into fourths I squared them up at 6.5 inches so the quilt would finish at 60 by 72 inches.

I quilted it on the Bernina Q24 in a really cute heart and spiral design.

I barely had enough fabric to line up the repeats on the back.  I'm tickled with how well it turned out.  Can you see the seam?

Hint:  It is towards the bottom of the picture above.

I named the quilt Raspberry Chocolates because of the cute pink and brown polka dots in the blocks and used for the binding.

I love how it turned out.

It is hanging out on my quilt ladder for now.

Valentine's Day Projects

I had so much fun finishing three small Valentine projects this year.  The first is this ombre table runner made from the scraps of one of my favorite quilts, Quilty Kisses.  It is currently adding some Valentine charm in my bedroom.

I quilted the table runner with hearts and spirals, which is one of my new favorite designs.

When we are eating at the table, this runner moves to the trunk/coffee table in my family room.

I had so much fun making that table runner that I decided to make a table topper for our new end table.

It has a cute Riley Blake print I bought last year and a Northcott print for a border.  I used the envelope finishing method instead of adding a binding for speed.

Once that was finished, I put together one more table runner with five inch squares.  I love how it turned out!

It was so busy with all the prints that I just quilted it simply with a medium stipple.  I love how it looks with the valentine decorations on my mantle.

My great room now looks so festive and is really cheerful.

I don't know how many times I have said this, but sometime I would love to make some quilted pillows.  Do you think they will look okay on leather sofas?

Check out my February Decor post from last year to see some of my previous Valentine projects.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Christmas Week ~ Day 6

{December Decor}

Welcome to the sixth and final day of Christmas Week here at Quilt Kisses.  Today I am sharing all of my quilty Christmas decorations.  We will start in my great room with an old table runner acting as a hearth stone by the fire place.

Then you can see the new table runner on the cabinet nearby.

The wreath table topper is on the end table.

And an old Santa quilt is by the stairs (with new family pictures!).

There are some new projects I shared earlier this week in the front room.

Two Christmas quilts are in my bedroom.  One is old and the other a recent finish.

Two more Christmas quilts are upstairs.

There is even more Christmas quilts and projects downstairs.

I love decorating for Christmas, especially with quilts!

Thank you for joining me for Christmas Week here at Quilt Kisses.  Now that I have shared my seasonal projects it will probably get quiet on the blog again.  I'm looking forward to all the family time and finishing up some other projects.

Merry Christmas from the Quilt Kisses Family!
