Sea Breeze
I made this quilt for my nephew Mr. C for his wedding. His wife's favorite color is sea green. I only had two fabrics that were sea green, so I went shopping and found six more. The background is five different light grays.
I made the flying geese four at a time using the no-waste method. They ended up a funny size, because I cut the large squares out at nine inches to make the most of my fabric. I used the math found here to figure out how big to cut the small squares.
I added a narrow border so that the points wouldn't be cut off by the binding. It was a Grunge fabric with hints of sea green. It finishes about 60 by 72 inches.
I quilted it on the Bernina Q24 with a large spiral design.
I love how it turned out.
I named the quilt Sea Breeze because of the colors and the geese flying in the wind.
It is a good thing that sea green isn't my favorite color because this quilt would have been hard to give away otherwise. ;)
The bride and groom loved the quilt.
Have you used the no-waste method for flying geese?

More Minky Blankets
I finally got around to using the blue elephant minky. I made another minky blanket using leftover and repurposed minky. (That leopard print was going to be a pillow case.) Panda has claimed this one as his.
That made a total of three elephant blankets. The first one was the green elephant blanket. I claimed this one.
The second one was the red elephant blanket. Monkey has claimed this one.
What is a girl to do but make two more minky blankets so that everyone has one. This fourth blanket was claimed by Cheetah.
The fifth one was given to my sweet, patient husband.
Hopefully there will be less fighting over the pure minky blankets now that we each have one. ;)
All of the minky you see in the blankets was either scraps from previous projects or bought on clearance at my LQS. I still have more minky scraps. I will have to decide what to do with them later. My studio needed a very good cleaning once the last three were finished.

Free-Motion Fantasy
This panel was designed by Amanda Murphy and was only available to Bernina Dealers. She mentioned it here on her blog. I was able to purchase it from my dealer when I took a class from her with my mom.
I had a lot of fun quilting it up on my domestic sewing machine. It is easier for me to quilt following a line while sitting down instead of on the long arm.
Panda doesn't like seeing the dots and arrows which tell you where to quilt.
I told him to back up and look at the whole quilt.
This is a quilt that does look better at a distance.
The backing is a Riley Blake aqua from my stash. It matched the front very well.
The binding was leftover from one of my niece's quilts.
I think the butterfly was my favorite part.
I named the quilt Free-Motion Fantasy because that is the name of her newest fabric line which reminds me of the panel.
The quilt finishes about 36 x 50 inches.

30's Race
My mom gave me the fabrics for this quilt when I cut one out for her just like it. It is made using my Chunky Race Quilt Calculations and 30's style fabrics.
One thing I did differently when piecing this quilt was piece it in sections of just four rows each. I did that because each fabric was used 5-6 times. That kept the like fabrics from touching as often.
Once all five sections and the extra row were sewn, I trimmed them all to the same length and sewed them together.
I quilted it on the Bernina Q24 with large loops. It is such a fun design to use.
The backing is a creamy yellow fabric from my mom's stash.
The binding is one of the fabrics from the top.
I love a finished quilt.
This one will probably be gifted or donated.

Mom's Spring Race
My mom pieced this quilt and planned on quilting it herself. She changed her mind when she broke her ankle. So I finished it for her.
I have a similar quilt made out of the same fabrics.
Mine has cream minky on the back. Hers has yellow minky on the back.
I love how it turned out.
It is now ready for my mom to snuggle with.
I finished another very similar quilt lately and will share it soon.

Baby Quilt for Jackie
I finished this darling quilt for my mom's friend Jackie. It was pieced by her daughter and will be given to her new granddaughter.
I quilted it with a loopy flower design on the Bernina Q24.
She chose a purple minky for the backing.
Then I bound it in the same stripes as on the top of the quilt.
It was the perfect finish.
Panda was sad when I had to give it back because he thought it was the cutest quilt I had ever made. Too bad he doesn't have any sisters.
