Quilting the Lantern Quilt

Because this lantern quilt is for my sister, I asked her if she would rather have more detailed quilting or a minky backing.  She chose the more detailed quilting.  I had so much fun quilting it and watching it transform, that I decided to take pictures after each step.

Here is the finished quilt top.

The first quilting I did was to echo the columns on each side of the seam.  This was all done freehand without any rulers to keep me straight.  ;)

Then I quilted continuous spirals through the lanterns and bars.

Then I quilted a loose wiggle over the background columns.

Quilting really does transform the quilt!  I will share the finished quilt this Friday.

Jasmine

  3. Your freehand outlining looks great! The giant swirls in the lanterns are fun and I really like how the line is continuous through the bars, too.

  8. Quilting does transform a quilt. You have a good eye for what designs will enhance a top. And apparently a steady hand too! Your freehand echo turned out great!
