Weighted Blanket
I recently helped my friend Alissa make a weighted blanket for her son. We based it off of the tutorial at Confessions of a Fabric Addict. The tutorial was written for a blanket about 30 by 48 inches. We had to alter it to be 60 by 84 inches. Her son is rather tall.
Alissa used Kona cottons she bought at JoAnn's for half price. It used a lot of fabric. I did all of the cutting and she did most of the sewing. I did the walking foot quilting to form the pockets.
Here is a peek at the back.
One of the reasons why we liked this tutorial is because it has you make a duvet to put over all the pockets. I love how it looks like the blanket is being eaten.
Her son chose a nice navy blue minky which was conveniently already 60 inches wide.
They are loving this weighted blanket because it is completely adjustable with how you can distribute the weight.
I would highly recommend the tutorial if you want to make an adjustable weighted blanket.

Patriotic Table Runner
I made this table runner to match my July mantle.
I quilted it simply by stitching in the ditch. Anything more competed with the cute prints. (Which means I spent over an hour unpicking ten minutes of quilting.)
It is the same basic pattern as the pink and purple table runners I have made previously. It just fits the spot so well and finishes at 18 by 72 inches.
I think I may make one in greens. I already have the fabric picked out for it.

A Purplicious Table Runner
I recently made this purple table runner to go with my purple and green bunting.
I quilted it with a paisley motif on my domestic sewing machine.
Purple is my favorite color and it makes me so happy.

Ten Baby Blankets
My favorite baby gift is still a quilted flannel blanket. I have made ten recently and still have more to make. Good thing I have a large baby flannel stash.
The first two sets (two of each) were quilted on the Bernina Q24 and have a separate binding.
The next three sets all used batting leftovers that were zig-zagged together. They were sewn together using this method. I quilted them on my Tiara.
These might not be as fun to see, but they were fun to make.

Two More Quilts by Miss S
My niece Miss S loves making quilts and she loves the jelly roll race design. She pieced both of these at home and brought them out to Utah to finish with me. :)
These are her eighth and ninth quilts. Every quilt she makes she does a little bit more of the process by herself. I am happy to say that she quilted both of these by herself on the long arm. I am so proud of her.
I had her start out doodling the cursive L design on the whiteboard before using the machine. I think she did a fantastic job.
She quilted two in one day and then bound them both the next.
I love both the look and how easy it is to quilt in rows.

Star of Wonder Two
I made this quilt for my niece Mrs. S and her husband for their wedding (a little late). It probably looks familiar because I made a larger blue star quilt last year.
The one for Mrs. S only uses two different blue fabrics on the top. One is the center star and binding and the other for the rest of the diamonds. It is a lap quilt rather than a twin size quilt.
I quilted it on the Bernina Q24 with a spiral design.
It has a navy blue minky on the back.
The color of the minky shows up the best in the picture with the label.
I made it with lots of love.
I still have one more wedding quilt for make for a nephew this year. It will be in sea green.

New Portable Project
I love having a hand sewing portable project, but I like fast finishes. It seems like an oxymoron to me. ;) I realized that if I had smaller projects that didn't take long it would be the best of both worlds. My solution was to crochet washcloths. I have found that they are addicting and make great gifts.
I believe I have made more than sixty in three months. I'm sure that number will continue to grow. I think I may give them for neighbor gifts this Christmas.
