Stash Busting

As I have stated, my big goal for 2014 is to use up a lot of my stash.  I will gradually update it with new fabrics, but I am coming to realize that fabric is only one expense of quilting.  Needles, thread,  batting, and tools can really add up!

I thought it would be fun to create a stash bucket list, to see what I have to work with...

I know I can make a bunch of quilts using up my florals, and I have already started.
I blogged about my finished floral quilts here, here, and here.

Here are the pinks, I have started on them too.
I blogged about a finished pink twister quilt here

Here are the greens.

And the warm colors.
Used and blogged about here.

The brights.

The purples.

The grays.

The browns.

The lowish volumes.

And the solids.

Then I thought it would be fun to pull some fabric for kits.  Some are to give, some are to donate, and some are for my home.

Plus I still have more baby blankets to make for friends and neighbors.
Made into blankets and ready to tie.

As you can see, I have a lot to keep me busy.  I am so glad to know that pulling fabric for kits doesn't actually count as starting the quilt.  So no UFOs on this page yet.  ;)

  1. I started a "de stashing" challege this year too...use what I have and not buy any until at least June! So far, other than buying what I needed to finish a wedding quilt.. I haven't bought...at a store. i have a thrift shop that every week has brand new fabric (usually from Joann's Craft store) and I can't pass that up! 3-5 yards for 50 cents a yard! Today I got the darling yellow/giraffe fabric, not flannel, but a soft cotton and my one grand daughter happens to love giraffes so for $3 I got enough to make her a quilt or something else! The other 2 fabrics in there, to the stash they go! Good luck on your work!

  3. I like to make simple quilts for charity, they're fast, easy, and I can make 3 or 4 instead of 1 complicated quilt. I choose 9 fabrics that look good together (or scrappy is fine too), and cut them into 9 inch squares. I quilt them in a larger design and use a poly/cotton batting. It's a great way to use up scraps fast!
